I love ennerdale. But I did ghost a pipe with it years ago that I didn't want to make an ennerdale exclusive pipe. I smoked Balkan Sasanie and 965 in it for a bit and the ghost decided to go elsewhere.

It will work out without too much work. And, the ennerdale ghost, as it fades, is not the worst thing...

Can it be done?
I only smoked Lakeland blend three times or so. BUT it was Ennerdale.
Pipe was new briar, so there’s no cake.
I gave it hot water treatment, and now I’m smoking OJK in it but yeah, definitely a ghost in there.

My 67-69 Estate Grabow had like a 40 year old ghost in it, and I smoked it out, took probably 15-20 bowls, and a bit of Everclear swabbing out the shank and it came out. ?

So I think you’re good!

Be sure to use Everclear on a pipe cleaner and run it through the shank and mortise to really swab it out after each smoke.

In the past I used only 80-100 proof Vodka, it does not do the trick, Everclear is great!

Every Ghost I’ve had in a pipe, I’ve been able to smoke them out.

I'd definitely follow up white vinegar (or whatever treatments you select) with bowls of good strong burley blends. I think they stand up well to leftover flavors. If you are comfortable with stronger burley, that will work faster. C&D Dark Burlely, Big'n'Burley, Tuggle Hall. Milder is okay, but will take longer.

I have a couple of Savinelli seconds gifted to me by my uncle, he smoked captain black in them for 20 years, then they sat unused for another 20 years. Have had them and smoked them for three years now, mostly with geranium blends, when I reach the heel the old captain shows up without fail, almost like the light going on when you’ve got 5 litres of petrol left in the car. That’s after many many bowls, water flushes, reaming, salt and alcohol. That’s a ghost!

Damn. I’m sure hunting down some old stock will be tough. Hopefully the future releases will be better.
It was speculated on another forum that it may be Gawith's way of conforming to flavored tobacco regulations or to appeal to smokers who for years condemned their blends for tasting like urinal cakes. It may be their new normal.

Anyone know how lakelands effect a Meer? I've got a hand holding a rose meer that I don't use much that seems appropriate for lakelands but I'm hesitant to commit it if it'll be irreparably haunted.

You should be OK, I put Lakelands, Latakia, aromatics etc in mine and it seems to absorb every thing I throw at it, if you're sensitive to Lakelands that may be a different matter though.

I wanted to try Ennerdale because I used to like Grousemoor, many years ago, but then ordered a tin and found it had almost no sauce whatsoever. I confirmed with another forum member here who also had bought a recent tin, same issue. So anyhow, I went for the Ennerdale. That was over a year ago, smoked it a couple times, and I just never reach for the stuff. I tried it again this week, one bowl, and it was just not for me.

So rather than have a dedicated Lakeland pipe that never sees any action, I'd like to try to beat the ghost.

Thanks for the feedback. I may try the vinegar method. It's not an expensive pipe, so I don't care all that much if it doesn't work ou
Yep

Nah, deertongue is more difficult to remove than a Lakeland.

Yep

Lakelands now are a shadow of what they once were. The new Ennerdale is nearly flavorless.
Can you tell me what is the signature or essence of a Lakeland blend? And maybe some examples other than the few aforementioned? I’m not familiar…

I already answered this:

If you're willing to do the work you can exorcise just about any ghost. And if you're not willing to do the work you can accept the excuse that it can't be done.

Rose geranium
Thank you. I always read the specifications before purchasing and I recall having seen one with geraniums which I avoided (because I have geranium essential oil and don’t care for it’s smell). I can’t say I’ve read any specs calling out rose, but I don’t think I’d enjoy that either. I guess I don’t enjoy floral stuff. Again, thanks for the info.
