Can it be done?
I only smoked Lakeland blend three times or so. BUT it was Ennerdale.
Pipe was new briar, so there’s no cake.
I gave it hot water treatment, and now I’m smoking OJK in it but yeah, definitely a ghost in there.

For the rose-geranium blends, I've been given to believe that only a designated pipe will do. Those ghosts are here to stay. Other non-aromatic blends shouldn't be a problem. But more experienced Lakeland voices would be more authoritative. Exorcising rose-geranium isn't worth the time, I hear.

I have been de ghosting a Dunhill LB Billiard and I first used moist coffee grounds. I stuffed the bowl and shank with them and let them sit for 24 2 days in a row. The ghost was still there but much less. This pipe had already been to a pro who used an ozone machine which did squat.

So after the coffee I said screw this, I loaded the pipe with Cult Blood Red Moon. I figured I can get an aromatic ghost out of a pipe a lot easier than a Lakeland and it is working. I can barely taste the Lakeland ghost and I taste very little cherry. I would rather taste cherry than Lakeland any day of the week.

White vinegar. Soak a cotton ball in the vinegar, put cotton ball in chamber for a couple of days. Scrub out the airway with vinegar too. This is the only method that totally neutralized the Lakeland ghost for me. I’ve tried the salt treatment, the coffee grounds the deep clean with alcohol and the pipe retort, they didn’t come close to removing the ghost.

I wanted to try Ennerdale because I used to like Grousemoor, many years ago, but then ordered a tin and found it had almost no sauce whatsoever. I confirmed with another forum member here who also had bought a recent tin, same issue. So anyhow, I went for the Ennerdale. That was over a year ago, smoked it a couple times, and I just never reach for the stuff. I tried it again this week, one bowl, and it was just not for me.

So rather than have a dedicated Lakeland pipe that never sees any action, I'd like to try to beat the ghost.

Thanks for the feedback. I may try the vinegar method. It's not an expensive pipe, so I don't care all that much if it doesn't work out.

Only 3 bowls on new briar? I’d say just ride it out and keep smoking. Once you get some char and cake buildup, might cover up the fragrant oils? Not sure but that’s probably what I’d do. Smoke several bowls and see if the ghost diminishes. If so, then maybe you’re in luck and it’ll move out someday.
