I recommend noise canceling headphones
So at this point I am recommended to install fans, turn on annoying fans, play loud music to cover fan noise, notice annoying speaker hiss, get drunk to ignore speaker hiss and then put on noise cancelling headphones in case I sober up?

I think I might just sit outside and listen to the birds thanks!

Ha, I guess the headphones would just be an alternative to loud music and speaker hiss and getting drunk. Though you could still technically get drunk with the headphones 🤷🏻‍♂️

We did a fair amount of renovations to our current home before we moved in (about 2 years ago). I knew I wanted to install a whole house fan. Instead of putting it into the standard location of the 2nd floor hallway ceiling, I put it in the ceiling of my office (spare 2nd floor bedroom). Works just fine as house fan there, but if I close the door, close the HVAC vent, and open the window a bit, I can smoke in there all I want with no lingering odor issues afterwards. The price to pay is it can get a little cold/hot depending in the season, but it’s pulling in enough house air under the door that it’s always reasonably comfortable if the outside temp is between about 30 and 85. Of course, it requires an attic (with sufficient ventilation), so that may not work for your new room. It has insulated flaps that fall closed when the fan is off. The motor itself is well inside the attic, which cuts down on noise. Could also be overkill for just one room, and much more expensive than just a powerful bathroom fan.

I also have one. Since I have solar and thus no electric bill, I forget to use it 😄 It is definitely more efficient at cooling the house than the AC though. Mines centered in the middle point of my home though.

52 db With fans running, exhaust and one behind me. per app that is equal to Quiet Home….
Quiet home for me, like right now at 6am, is everyone else asleep and all I can hear is the birds outside, the ringing in my ears, a very slight hum from the fridge and the mechanical tick from our kit cat clock. The typing sounds are bugging me a little bit, I might stop now.

Try spending an hour outside in winter in Connecticut!
For me it’s just too hot to comfortably be outside most of the day and year. Hot, dusty, windy. There are hotter places but I’m not inclined to warm weather at all.

I built this 6 fan array with computer fans per some forum advice. It is too much rigmarole. The faster you turn up the motors the louder they are as others mention. Now, I just open the window or go outside. Or occasionally smoke inside windows shut not caring, If anyone wants this fan array I guess PM me. The gang of 6 fits a 28” wide window. I can’t think of any other use for it so I guess I should try re-homing it.IMG_1321.jpeg
