It's really interesting seeing the variation in blasts ranging from Cannoy to Cook. I've been making a few small changes since my first blasts in January. I thought it might be interesting to see how small changes make a big difference- My rig is a single stage Kobalt 80 gallon 5hp with 16cfm at 90lbs. I use a Scatblast 850 blast cabinet with glass beads (stole it on Craigslist for $450- Probably have only have $1,400 total in equipment and material).
The first picture is the result of dropping my pressure from 120 to 110 psi- the result? Deeper blasts with more definition. Instead of everything being blasted away, more of the harder briar remains. The second pipe is one of my standards- the reverse calabash Snapping Turtle. On this one, I blasted it, and sanded some areas back to smooth- gives a nice combination of textures when you hold it....I love experimenting!

I prefer blasting much more as opposed to rusticated. It just seems to have a somewhat more natural look to it.

Those are some great looking pipes. Thanks for sharing a little insight into sandblasting. The whole pipe making aspect is very interesting.

Wow cool.
Thanks for posting this and giving some tech details along with gear info,

good stuff!
The blasts are looking great,

and that experimental finish is a jawdropper!
I've seen a few different approaches with the partial sanding, but yours is by far the most attractive and cool looking

--- you definitely have the eye of an artist!
