That and your two pinking fingers. Stop by the nail parlor and get two medium long nails installed, then go home and clean out the old schnaaze. I don't mean a light dusting, I mean really dig in there. Lots of people forget nasal maintenance because they think it's unsavory, which it is but that doesn't mean it doesn't need to be done. So start digging. Dig like no one is watching. Dig like you are going for gold. Dig like the champion you know are. You'll be surprised what you pull out. I once got out half a haam. I can't explain it. Then netty pot flush and feel alive again!
When one week off doesn't work, I take two weeks off. I don't think I have ever had to do a three week stint off smoking, if thats any encouragement. Every now and then I think tasting system just needs a holiday.
Alex, I think you need to slow down with your pipes for a while. It's body chemistry that aren't in your favor.
Generally, if you suffer from cold how long does it takes to subside?
Does it take longer? Does your sinuses gets inflamed or get stuff with mucous during cold?
Cold if takes more then longer to heal up can affects your taste and smell senses alike.. It's just that you need to get fully recover from it if you want to enjoy your smokes and blends..
I have also had tasting problems following a cold - they seemed to linger for ages. Best Brown Flake* has always been my key. I have found that just focusing on one straight VA blend with gentle flavours - no spice, no aromatics - really helped. This has also helped in the times that I have been too greedy with the Latakia and fried my tongue! The straight VA help my tastebuds to sort of "re-set" themselves. Saying that, I think it's time for a bowl of BBF...
*If I couldn't get Best Brown Flake, I'd probably go for Peterson's (Dunhill) Flake. Similar vibe.
It took me almost 4 weeks following a bout with the flu earlier this year. It affected all taste: coffee, food, beer, pipes, everything. Taste come back slowly in 4th week, and by week 5 it was glorious.
