I have a strange question for you folks, have you ever had an issue where you stopped tasting the tobacco normally?
Everything tastes flat to me. You name it and it tastes like almost nothing. I've sampled this with a few old stand-bys that I smoke all the time, like Telegraph Hill and Black Frigate.
This started about a month ago and I attributed it to the cold I had at the time....but I have been over that for three weeks now and still no flavor.
I'm wondering about perhaps a dental issue...…or something else? I'm not having any pain, but I know that is not always the best indicator of dental problems as they often start long before the agony.
I just received a HU Tobacco order from Europe and I am getting basically no enjoyment out of it because of this issue. :(

Any ideas or experience?

Thanks,
Alex

Take a week off. Clean all your pipes and give them a rest during that week while you’re at it. Come back with a fresh palate and slowly sip your favorite subtle blend and really try to focus on the nuances. See if that helps.

If not, buy the shittiest, cheapest bag tobacco and rock on because it won’t matter anymore and you will have invented the cure for TAD. ???

No nose issues, pipes are clean, even bought a couple new cobs to smoke. No difference. Flavor is flat.
Picked up a fresh Pirate Kake and the flavor is very flat. put the pipe on hold for over a week.....nothing.

Did you use any zicam or nasal inhalers when you were sick? I am wondering if you sense of smell is back up and running? Those intranasal swabs with zinc were affecting people's smell receptors which could make everything go flat, not just the tobacco.

Your olfactory receptors are supposedly restricted in the winter which is why some people say they prefer "heavier" blends in the winter and "lighter" blends in the summer. You just cant smell as well in the winter and that may be why things are tasting bland.

On second thought it is way more likely that all your tobacco has lost it's flavor. I am willing to offer my tobacco testing and/or disposal services for free.

Are you on any meds that might restrict full use of your taste buds? Are you having the same problem with food or drink?

No medications whatsoever.
Yes, I should clarify. Everything seems to taste flat.
But I don't appear to be sick.
