Does the group have any suggestions for a good evening tobacco to be used at the end of a long day? I'm looking for something along those lines and I don't have a much experience with the various brands.

I always end the day with one of these...

Cotton Boll Twist
GH&co rope
Dark Flake unscented (sometimes scented)
Picayune
H&H Freight Train
5Brothers
Nightcap (in the winter)
Burley Flake #1
CD Cube Cut Burley
Semois
Brown Twist Sliced
Dark Birds Eye

Or one of the darkest stickiest nicotine dripping cigars I can find.

After one of these, I just drag myself along the floor to the bed and pass out at the end of the day. Since I've been doing this I have not had the need for a sleeping pill after a lifetime of insomnia.

Only experience will tell you what a nighttime blend is through trial and error. No one would normally smoke a blend during the night just because that is the advice they were given.

For pipe tobacco, I often smoke two bowls in the evening: a heavyweight (cosmic’s list is excellent), followed by a mellow aromatic or English.
I once watched a guy smoke a Esteban Carreras Chupacabra cigar (one of the brown ones) Grande Naturals at the briary. He turned white, then green with drool just slobbered all over his shirt, stumbled to the bathroom and threw up all over himself, and then just passed out in the floor, moaning painfully in his death roll, until someone could call his wife.
I was sold immediately!! They just seemed perfect! I perked up and merrily bought the rest of the box. They aren't sticky, but man o man... what a really nice smoke!!

Generally, I like blends that don't blow out my palate during the day and ones that do in the evening. Lately, my favorite evening puffs are Balkans such as Balkan Sobranie/Sasieni, H&H White Knight/Black house, Pease Quiet Nights and Balkan Supreme. I will occasionally swap for an English such as Ashton Artisan's Blend, Peterson My Mixture 965 or Rattray's Black Mallory (which I guess is more Scottish, but whatever).

I end the day with something mild like MacBaren's Vanilla Cream Loose Cut or Lane Limited Very Cherry and Dark Red. Nicotine keeps me up at night. My stronger blends are reserved for morning smokes when my heart needs to be jump started.

It is funny though because the general trend with all tobacco manufacturers has always been to promote heavy nicotine blends during the evening. I do the same. In the evening I like winding down with less of a challenge, whereas in the morning I would normally crave blends with higher nicotine content.

It partly depends on your relationship with nicotine. If you get lightheaded or woozy, and enjoy something strong anyway, maybe high nicotine is good because then you can just sleep on it. I have a somewhat high nicotine tolerance, and rarely smoke for the nic hit, though I can enjoy it, so it really matters less to me. If I smoke high nicotine blends with an empty stomach and not well hydrated (me, not the tobacco) then late evening is good. In fact, unless I'm smoking Tambolaka, or something of that strength, it doesn't matter.
