Think about it this way ... suppose you had purchased an old wallet for a few bucks from an old widow, and later found a folded fifty stuck deeply inside it. Obviously neither party knew it was there. I think sharing the good fortune works, whether it be cash or some type of gift.
I don't know about you, but as I get older and older, I find myself trying to be more generous with everything from real philanthropy (donations to a local university, church, other charities), to the girls scouts to how I tip at restaurants. Guess I am facing up to the fact that I will have to answer for my decisions, and have also discovered there is a lot of joy to be had in helping others. While this is not a charity case, I just get a feeling that you will feel good about returning some of the extra benefit that you received.

more than a few $$ an old guy might like a road trip out for dinner.. if he lives alone he probably ain't getting out much particularly if he doesn't drive anymore.
I'll bet Mom would be glad to come along.

You got it for a price, this is how buying and selling works. However you offered the price, he flinched and took it. Now your conscious is eating away at you knowing you low balled this frail old man and got away with it, so the proper gentleman thing to do would be to phone him to ask if he's home, drop buy and insist on paying him more, like drop the money on the floor and walk out if he refuses to take it. Or you'll forever have this running through your mind and it will haunt you.....

I would say gift him and remember he is in his 90's and may not know how to search the internet for values of pipes like we can.

Every time you smoke it you will remember the deal you made. Want to love the pipe?

Posts like these are why I hang out here. I agree, some company for a 90 year old will be worth more than money, for both of you.
anthony said it though. Stop by if you're ever in Dallas bro. There will be smoking. And beers.
