I think you first need to know the maximum limit of tobacco products that can be imported by an individual as stipulated by the Japanese law, in China, it is stipulated to be no more than 1000CNY and 1KG, in fact, as long as you make sure that the amount of money is within the required range, and the weight exceeds a small amount, you can basically pass through the customs without any problem.

I hate to hear of all of the recent problems with DHL/Estervals. I've ordered a lot of tobacco and pipes from them in the past with very fast shipping and no issues. My last order was a bunch of St. Bernard (250G bags) when they were on sale this summer. They were insanely cheap. I think they were around 18$ ea. I hope they get it straightened out. I'm in the US.
Compared to regular DHL, the move to DHL Express a couple of years ago has largely been a huge improvement with much fewer issues. That said, the service is not without issues and will occasionally blow up. That's part of the risk, against which Esterval's rightly indemnifies itself in its terms under the "Shipping & Returns" section.

I did one last order out of curiosity, the first since that doomed 2020 shipment, to see how the change in delivery method worked, and it went perfectly well. But, I will not risk another turn at "tickling the dragon's tail". Curiosity satisfied. Just be aware that there is a risk, that you may be fine, but if not, you will have to decide whether to pay to try again, or be docked amounts equal to additional costs incurred by Esterval's with the original shipment. They're not covering you.

I don’t mean to hijack my own post, but do you guys have any recommendations for HU tobaccos or other pipe tobacco from Estervals for Virginia and VaPers?
In the past I have enjoyed such blends such as LTF, LBF, LNF, Capstan Blue, and Newminster 400, etc.

Thanks everyone who have posted so far and in advance for recommendations.

Based on threads I have seen in the past on this forum, I am thinking of ordering the following:

Out of the HU's I think my favorite is Janneman flake. I also liked Louisiana Broken and Directors cut. Don't forget you can also get Rainer Golden flake which is very good and hard to get in the states.

I don’t think they are having a problem. Dhl is likely the issue with legal and customs issues that we all wish were not there. So far as I have seen they are filing and shipping as usual.

It was said best earlier. If you are trying to bypass customs you take gambles. Dhl is not going to help you with that. Dhl is very by the book.

My experience exactly.
My recent Esterval’s order arrived via DHL Express in three days, with no customs problems. It will be my last order, not because I’m hesitant to push my luck, but because I just don’t need to buy anymore.

On the meantime, I’ve been playing blockade runner for a forum member in a certain English-speaking South Pacific nation, and having one hell of a time with USPS. It has nothing to do with Customs, and everything to do with their generalized incompetence.

There is no free lunch.

I only had one package not arrive to me from estervals it went back to them and I was able to get it when they tried to send it back to me. I'm in the states for the record. But after that hassle of my last order getting sent back and forth I haven't tried again.
So you had an order returned to Estervals, they sent it back to you, and you received ed it the second time ok?

My last experience with Esterval was the same except it was four days instead of three.
It was my last order from them as well for pretty much the same reason. The last order included 15 tins of a blend I fell in love with and I don't see the need to order more.
