Hi All- Any thoughts on this pipe? I am a bit on the fence as I realize Viking Classic are usually machine made (handmade is a misnomer I am told for these), won't clean easily with a pipe cleaner, and well seems too good looking to be a $39 pipe.

So- your thoughts? If this is a REAL WINNER as I do need more for rotation, please allow a poor peasant like me to have that chance. I will let you know if I go with it if someone really does want this.

THANKS A TON

Are you looking specifically for handmade or Danish or just a good reasonably priced estate pipe?

Blue Room Briars has this loverly GBD:

Clicky Linky

The Viking you posted about looks nice too. I like the shape and finish.

So I firstly prefer a pipe that is not unbranded- not sure why but I want to be able to talk to the brand if I end up have a good or bad experience with it.
Handmade for some reason appeals to me. Estate or new is fine to be honest. New- wonderful but I hear that with the "hipster" movement has pushed the move towards more machined and not the old time quality once out there.

I also mention handmade as I read that though this brand of pipe is stamped "HANDMADE"- that does not necessarily mean it was.

I like the pipe link you sent- I do own a GBD estate. Aside from the minor chip in the bowl- I like it. It's a touch small as it's a bulldog and the bowl won't hold what works well with my cadence. It cleaned up well and I got it for about $19.

I do like the looks of this Viking a touch more than the GBD you referenced.
Perhaps I should not care but something about having a pipe you like to look at also.

Any other thoughts on that brand?

I've asked specifically about Viking pipes here before and a couple people had them and were happy.

Let Me Google That For You and you can see they sell for $59-$79 new.

And here is My Post
I saw that post- this one looks different so I was curious if somehow it was a better find/better make. Perhaps that's a dumb statement or observation of mine. I've spent tons of hours now bidding/researching/etc. but I still see things now and then that trip me up or make me take a 2nd look.

As Jef said- it is a nice looking pipe.

I need to relook at that pipe scorch. My cheapie seems to get that really quick.

They are solid factory pipes for the price. The owner of the brand was a great guy and was in the industry for decades. He sadly passed a few years ago and P&C purchased his remaining inventory ( and I think the name ).

Fairly decent looking pipe and the quality is pretty good for Viking Classic. But it does have charring on the rim of the pipe, so might be able to talk him down to $35

As we know, pipes are never stamped by anyone under oath. It looks like a good well-made pipe. The price is about right, not a steal, but certainly moderate. If you like its looks, I think you will do okay.
