Allan, I am sure the pipe has come in by now, how about posting your thoughts on it. I am curious to hear if you love it.

First of all, it came in just as beautiful as the pictures. It is light weight and holds very nicely in my hand. The balance is excellent and the button on the stem is quite good, but maybe not quite as good as Rad's -but that's an unfair comparison. After all, who else in that price range can?
I've decided to keep this pipe as a Va and so far I'm very happy with it. It smokes dry and a pipe cleaner fits through without any issue
It is an estate, barely smoked, and it's condition is excellent
Totally different than any other in my now growing collection

Allan, I am very glad to hear you like the pipe. I would have bought it for myself if I had not already grabbed that Tonni. I think it is awesome looking. I think it was a wise choice to make it a Va pipe, that one screams flakes. Have you tried Capstan Blue flake in it yet, that could be a great combo or maybe some Escudo?
You should bring it to the pipe club and show them that a great pipe can be had for less than 1200.00. lol

This reference is about J. Alan pipes which are shown regularity at the NY pipe club meetings by some members. J.Alan polished can go way over 1,000.00 and do look like great constructed pieces
This Scott Thile could possibly compete with those others at a fraction of the price

Allan, I know that Thile would compete with those J. Alan's which is why you need to bring it. I would be curious to hear what those guys said and if they could see any major differences. I am sure they would give you a critique if you asked.
I have two Thiles and one J.Alan pipe. Though I can't compare the artistry (they're distinctly DIFFERENT shapes and finishes) but as far as materials and engineering, the Thiles are at least equal to the J.Alan.
In fact, I'd say the stems on my Thiles are even MORE comfortable than my J.Alan.
