Estate Restoration

Bought this today at an antique store. I have never purchased an estate pipe because I’m not really sure what I’m doing. This seems to be in good shape just dirty? It’s stamped as follows:
Castello Italy
Sea Rock Briar
Reg No 66171 No 56/F
Made in Cantù
I have many questions but the most pressing is how and where do I start the cleaning and restoration process. Can y’all point to a good article or site that will explain what to do? Thanks for any help

Thanks! Do you know what a professional restoration would run and who does it? I would like to do it myself but I’m afraid of messing something up.

I think that is a military mount that is stuck. The tenon and the dark ferrule were supposed to be permanently affixed to the shank and the oxidized stem is supposed to be friction mounted and removable. A pro will put it right!

Walker Pipe Repair is one. There are many others that other members with more experience could suggest. Good luck!

They seem to be well respected after looking them up. I will send it to them when I can. I will update when it’s fixed and clean.

There are plenty of cheap old pipes to hone your skills on. I got lucky grabbing a few on etsy.

This is the conclusion I came to. I see old pipes regularly for $10 or under in the wild. I think I will learn on those.
