I ordered my first ‘estate’ pipe on EBay on Sunday, and it has just arrived! I am very pleased with it. It’s obviously been smoked, but has been nicely cleaned and doesn’t even smell of tobacco (yet ?) !
Can anyone tell me about the metal tenon at the end of the mouthpiece?

As mentioned, it’s a stinger. I have a couple pipes equipped w/them… some are frictioned fitted, others are threaded. Popular on Kaywoodies, Grabows, and Willards.

Congratulations my man and welcome to a source of joy & misery… ?Bay Estates. ?

As has been said, it’s called a stinger and can usually be removed easily. Most folks just remove them, but do not get rid of or damage the stinger…it will hurt the resale value should you ever decide to sell it off. ?☕

Hack Saw. Pavement Grinder. All these are excellent for removing stingers. Some people like them, others think them the invention of the devil. What make of pipe did you purchase?

It’s a Wilsons pipe.
That’s all I know.
But it’s a great pipe and it gave me a great smoke! ?
