Just my two cents, there isn't usually a "too cheap." If someone restored them and are selling them, someone reputable, it's because they trust it is a good smoker. They are only cheaper because they aren't collectible or sought after. Some $5 pipes smoke incredibly well. I bought a 1932 Kaywoodie for $8 once, and it is truly one of my best smokers, and a hell of a piece for my collection.

@pagan, it is a 4 hole stinger. Flea market in upstate NY. When I unscrewed it he stared at me in awe, he had no idea it even had a stinger or what that meant. It was unsmoked or maybe a bowl or two through it. It was literally pristine except for oxidation on the stem. I told him it would take me hours to fix that and got him down to 8 from 10. Ha! She's lovely and smokes my McClelland 221-B Black Shag like a champ. It's all I smoke in it usually. I have a small collection of Kaywoodie pipes entirely due to my great experience with this "cheap" estate purchase.

LMAO, Crash!
I've made finds where my hands were shaking carrying the newly & dearly beloved up to the cash register. Even then, I'd still ask the clerk to call the booth owner and ask for 25% off due to dents, dings and greening.
You're standing there holding a US Grant pipe the seller wants to move for ten bucks and you're asking for a discount?
Man, that's just wrong, but I do it every time.

@crashthegrey, I bet that Woodie is awesome, great score. I have 5 in my collection from the 40's to 75, looking at them you can see the subtle changes over the years, but they all smoke great
