What pics exactly would help, the stem has no stinger at allneed More pics. Was there a metal stinger still attached to the vulcanite stem/ bit? Many Guildhall pipes tend to have one, unless it was removed by a former owner.
From that one pic my first guess would be that part of the stinger is stuck inside the shank.

If you are looking at the back side of a broken stinger stuck inside, the hole will be off-center due to the design of the Comoy-style stinger.
