I heard from an old and crotchety B&M owner that's been in the business for 30 years that Gawith is having such a hard time getting tobacco out because of some personal problems among the owner himself.
I hate to hear it, not only because you feel for the guy, but also because that sounds like a recipe for selling the name to a German outfit before too long.

I'm in the same boat. Bought a tin of Penzance last year to try and fell in love with it. Next thing I know, the hoarding started and I still haven't been able to find any, lol. All I have left now are some crumbles left over, not enough for a bowl.
Man I need some more Sam Gawith. I miss my FVF.

As a Canadian, I wouldn't hesitate to spend $150 on eight ounces of Stonehaven or Penzance if I truly desired them. I'd pay that much or more for under eight ounces of Captain Black at my local store. With that said, I won't even wade into those treacherous eBay waters while I can still shop online - I'd rather buy 12 tins of readily available tobacco via US etailers any day than get hooked on something I'll never be able to buy again.
Speaking of Esoterica shortages, 4noggins is out of Margate tins. I've put off ordering it a couple times now - I kind of regret doing that, who knows if it will get restocked. It was one of the English blends I've wanted to try from day one. Eight ounces is a bit too much for me to order blind in good conscience, though.

Normally I'd agree with you sparroa, 8oz is too much to order on an unknown but in this case I'd encourage you to take the leap. Simply one of the best tobaccos I've ever smoked.
Stonehaven actually sounds amazing. If there was one tobacco I'd pay an exorbitant amount for, it would be that. I was extremely interested upon first reading about it on TR, then instantly disappointed when I saw there was absolutely none available. I'm very curious about that treacle casing!
To be honest with you hauntedmyst, if they weren't on eBay I would consider paying such a high price up front from an etailer - granted I had a substantial store of tobacco already, something I'm still working on. I just have no tolerance for bidding wars or dealing with ornery eBay sellers who won't ship to Canada at all. I don't have much disposable income as it is, just seems like a tease to keep up on all those auctions.
Hauntedmyst, have you seen that consignment tin of Penzance for $52 on 4noggins? Besides the high price, I would be wary of what appears to be rust all over it. If that was Stonehaven in good condition, I'd buy it in a heartbeat just to say I tried it with 12 years aging. Would you consider that Penzance to be worth it to the uninitiated?

Looks like there was a very small batch of Penzance that got shipped out of the N.A. Distributor this week, and most of it is gone now. Also some Stonehaven made it out too and everyone is out of it again too. ( I did snag the last one that Iwan Ries had, so now I can at least try it out) :clap:
So I thought I would bring back this thread to see if anyone has an inside scoop on Penzance! I have been smoking a tin of it for the last 2 weeks and I really like it and I am hoping to get 1 tin to smoke and 2 or 3 tins for my cellar soon!

I was lucky enough to score 2 cans the other week at the local BM. That will last me a while since I only smoke it after a really shitty day just to lift me up.
That is literally the first time someone has said Jeremiah and there was more than one Jeremiah present! haha I think I have only ever met 5 or 6 other Jeremiahs!
It's happened to me on a few rare occasions, but you're right. Thankfully there aren't a whole lot of us around. =]
