Of all the Esoterica blends I have Tilbury has taken top spot. i have some Esoterica everyone looks for that I would like to replace with Tilbury. Any blends that would be close to Tilbury?

Nope. Not even Tilbury is Tilbury since the Virgiia base got changed. Looks like this happened around 2020. If what you have is later, then rejoice because you like the changed version, and might not like the earlier stuff.

I'm not sure which version of Tilbury I am smoking, courtesy of SBC, who didn't care for the burley as a condiment, but it's one of the most elegant blends in my rotation, and of course, being a burley-head, I would love it.

REO, are you aware that your Forums handle is the brand name of a U.S. made automobile of the early 20th Century? My wife's grandparents' first family car was a Reo, and I have admired them in auto museums.

If you are after Burley, be sure to check out Germain’s Uncle Tom’s.

If you don’t mind a straight VA, Brighton is really nice.

Outside the 2 blends that Esoterica is most known for, they have produced some others that are excellent. Peacehaven is really nice. Cardiff and Brighton are good, but to me a step back from Peacehaven. Dunbar and Dorchester are both also very good. But none of these is Tilbury. Savor what you've got, I don't think folks will be parting with any that they have...

Was it a speed wagon?

I'm not sure about the family car, but I think I do recognize Speed Wagon as one of their models.

My uncle's first car was made by a company owned by the first winner of the Indy 500 race and branded with his name, which I will try to Google and add here, if I can beat the clock ... It was a car called the Harroun, after its builder Ray Harroun who won the first Indy 500 race in 1911. I think it was specifically designed to tackle rough terrain like mountain roads. I think he was a Lebanese immigrant, or his parents were.

I may be the only person who didn't like the pre2020 version. I had some, and let it get 5 years on it, and it just had a dirt taste, some people call earthy, but no sweetness and had a very dirt taste... another word just escapes me. Dirt, that all that comes to mind, ha ha. I haven't tried the newer version.

I really enjoy Tilbury, the older I get the more I like it. I’ve never tasted anything that similar to it but if you like that one I’m sure you will enjoy the many Virginia/Burley blends out there… plenty of them to be had.

For some reason my local B&M always gets the same three Esoterica blends: Pembroke, Dorchester, and Tilbury. I have quite a lot of each, but the only one of the three that I really like is Dorchester. Reminds me of Elizabethan Mixture with a bit of an extra kick to it.
