I've got a 2oz tin of Margate. Looking forward to opening it soon. It's the one Esoterica blend I've got and I think I'll really enjoy it.
Thanks for the review.
I think you got a good price on a fine tobacco. I got some two year old Margate at my B+M for about $6.40/oz, and today he sold me some four year old Penzance for about the same price.
I like Margate as its a very enjoyable tobacco. Its not as hard to find usually as Penzance and Stonehaven, but at times people will buy it up as its an Esoterica blend. Its worth the $35 or so for the 8oz, but anything much more than that you can find other similar tobaccos that are just as good or better.
I split a bag with a friend from the local pipeclub, we had to buy internationally because Esoterica isn't available in Spain. If i recall correctly we paid 35$ for the 8oz bag. We took a bigger hit on shipping than the actual tobacco.
Every time I dip my paws into the tupperwared bag I keep it in I find it a little too wet to smoke and being impationt, I just select another blend instead of leaving it out to air, so I haven't smoked any in a while. I definately will be drying out some and firing up a bowl tonight...
Just ordered a bag of Margate from Iwan Ries for 36 smackers. I don't have any issue with that price honestly and have enjoyed all the Esotericas I've had.
There are so many excellent English/Latakia blends that I've lost count of those that I could recommend without reservation. Margate is one as well as Pembroke.
Most Esoterica blends can be found with a little effort, excepting of course, Stonehaven and Penzance. I urge members to look around a bit before posting message suggesting that they can't be found. Otherwise, we risk creating a self-fulfilling prophecy and the Esoterica blends that are now available will actually become scarce. Please and thank you.
