I wouldn’t be surprised if these “sample packs” decrease the demand for Esoterica. Now that many people have the opportunity to try them, some are going to have failed expectations.

If you have local BM that has it, go for it. For those that only have online as their source I am happy to be able to sample and decide for myself if the hype was worth it.
Has nothing to do with local, as several people have mentioned in previous threads, most B&Ms will ship. You just have to take the time to look up their phone numbers and call them.

I agree with the above regarding not living up to they hype. I have only tried Dunbar, not being a big English fan. It had good flavor, almost an incense like mouth feel. After the first half of the bowl started to get tongue bite. Still had flavor and aroma, but something was there that I didn’t experience with other tobacco. .
I base my favorite tobaccos on ones I keep reaching for, and this one definitely went back into the cellar. Maybe some time will bring out something more special. Just finished a tin of Embarcadero and definitely will need more of that one.
The one I do look for is Blackpool. I love licorice and think I would like that one. Never seen it online though.

Yeah... Really trying not to get caught up in the Eoterca chase. 1 oz samples for $13.. Don’t think so.
However I did score a tin of Margate from Country Squire for $20. That hurt a little but now I can finally see what all the hoopla is about. Also got a couple ounces of Bag End which I’ve been wanting to try. Bought some Shepherds Pie several months ago and it’s fantastic. Supposedly a Frog Morton replacement but stands very well on its own. Usually a daily for me.

I really like Blackpool. I am lucky to have a local B&M that get Esoterica in a few times a year, and I have some Blackpool cellared. Think Rattray Dark Fragrant with a little less tang and added licorice sweetness. It develops almost a grilled meat/salty/umami-ness that compliments the dark fruit and sweetness well. If you can find it, it’s definitely worth a try.
