Why does the tin say "scientifically manufactured"?

I would venture to guess that the "scientifically manufactured" statement is what is called "mere puffery" in the legal world

This refers to tests conducted in the late 30s in Nazi Germany, where the independent variable was tobacco cost and the dependent taste. Results would have seemed to be easily quantifiable were it not for the presence of three drunken church mice playing in the sample tobacco, leaving behind smelly bits. The blending house, on receiving the news of tarnished results, withdrew funding, contenting themselves with the above epithet.
