Rubbed or fold-and-stuff? It depends. Indoor or outdoor smoking, shape and size of the chamber, relative humidity and temperature and whether I want to smoke it dry or as is, my level of patience and/or laziness ... even after many years with coin and flake, I haven’t established a fixed loading method. I sometimes like my flake via the cube cut-gravity fill, and have done this a couple times with Escudo, with enjoyable results. I’ll figure it our someday.

Same here. I've tried folding/stuffing a few times, but lost patience and went back to the rubbing. Maybe I'll try again today and see if I'm better at it.
I haven't noticed enough of a taste difference to justify the inferior smoking characteristics of a folded flake over a rubbed out one. It has been a while since I tried to fold one, though. Maybe I'll give it a shot later, too.

I am in the middle. The OP asked about stuff or rubout, but I just tease them and break them up a bit. Chunkiness allows them to smolder like briquets and draw better. ForCosmic(two different flakes) I cut the flakes into 3/8” pieces before teasing them andmixing them.

of course this needs a caveat before I say it... So YMMV. But when I fold and stuff I find that I don't need a lot of relights if the initial light seems over done. Like get a big hot ember started. Go against your better instincts. No idea why that works but it seems to burn and smoke much easier that way. Like you should feel like what your doing with that light isn't right. It seems to keep it going and tamping is much more of a requirement for me with the fold and stuff method. And if you lit ribbon that way it would be a horrible smoke but with fold and stuff it chills out pretty fast. Though I really think the cube cut method is the best of both worlds. You get the flavor enhancement and it burns more normally.

I tend to have better luck folding & stuffing coins than flakes - especially thicker flakes. I use a pipe with a wider bowl for folding & stuffing coins and I enjoy the longer smoke of folded Escudo or De Luxe Navy Rolls.
