I've got a few tins of Escudo inbound to stow away for the future.
Should I open these tins and stick them in mason jars or leave as is?

If some of it does go into jars should I keep the size to 16 ounces? Does it matter if more went into something bigger? The idea of being able to see them change over time is appealing but unsure..

What are your thoughts / experiences?

If you intend to keep them for the future, just leave them in the tin in a cool, dark place. If you want to watch it age, place one tin in a jelly jar, then leave the rest in the tins.

Just know that the tobacco in the tins won't look the same as the jar, since the air in the jar will change the fermentation process...

Take a look at this as an example:

Unless a seal becomes compromised, I see no reason to open and transfer any round tin. Square/rectangular tins and paint can-style tins are another matter entirely.
Just check the seals every once in a while. If the seal is broken you can open the tin by hand the normal way. Just don't use a ton of force like that guy that didn't know the coin trick (that was me).

Unless they are Gawith tins, I recently got some commonwealth mixture the day I opened the post box, the seal was already compromised, or other square tins I prefer tin storage. The good news is my commonwealth was perfectly dried.

For round and foil lined yes keep in the tin, also worth more later if you plan on selling or trading.
