My good lady is in New York, for a week - so, while the wife's away, I will play.
I've been smoking Erinmore Plug recently, but not enjoying it as I remember it from years ago. So, tonight, I lit the fire, made a pot of green tea, cut some flakes, rubbed them out and loaded my gorgeous Erik Nielsen (for the first time in a very long time).
I am sitting in an armchair, smoking, IN THE HOUSE!!!!
It is sublime - Erinmore never tasted so good. It is a beautiful plug tobacco. And, this pipe is amazing!! I need another - exactly the same ;-)
I love this plug, nearly as much as I love this pipe - it's my best, and favourite. I've been wrapped up in very old briar for the last couple of years, but now, I think it's time to reacquaint myself with my first and true love - the Danes.
Now, need to get the smell out of the house before the Lady gets home !!!!! Bugger....

Most excellent.
I had a similar experience with EP as at first I didn't really like it at all, but it grew on me and I found myself craving it. Now the pouch is all smoked up. I like it better than McQuaid Plug.
But I recently tried Velvan and that stuff is really really good!

:D
My first love was the Danes too, just Stanwell mind you, but those shapes really won me over (also, they're Scandinavian so it clicked with my Saab love), then I migrated to the classic BritBriar, gained an interest in the American artisans, and just now I'm in the throes of being wrapped up with an Italian maker...
Gamboni makes pipes like my dreamcar,

a 1969 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750,

yes indeed.

Yes, indeed! Indeed!!
That is absolutely gorgeous, Troy - my jaw dropped. If I had that car, I'd spend as much time looking at it as I would driving it. When not used it would be in an air conditioned garage. I think it beats the old Series Landrover ;-)
The pipe:

It's incredibly light, tactile in the hand, and, the icing on the cake is the beautiful conical chamber. It's one of Erik's very early pipes.
Chasingembers, thanks for the tip, but no time - this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. So, I've been walking the dogs in the rain, and letting them steam dry in front of the fire - the smell of damp dog is pervasive.

Otto and Knuckles - looking at them last night, sleeping like this, I was in the presence of true happiness and contentment - it made my own all the sweeter.

:D

Big smiles for the doggies!
Otto & Knuckles!
What great names,

they look like a mighty duo!
...and the pipe,

quite the goodlooker,

conical bowl?

I love 'em!

Great design sense also when he left the shank end smooth, it just looks so right, so balanced, matched with the rim,

and it's a great blast too!

No wonder you're thanking Erik!

:puffy:
Wife gets home,

"Honey, what's that odd smell?"
"Ah, just a scented candle to help bring in the May flowers, the label said it was supposed to be pineapple, how'd ya like it?"
The Alfa GTV,

only in my dreams.

I've came very very close on several occasions to actually buying one, and I've driven one a few times too, My God are they wonderful!

One of my biggest regrets is back when I was living in Athens I had the incredible oppo to buy one on fire sale for $1500, and it was kitted out in full GTAM regalia, flares etc., but it was mechanically all apart in boxes, interior in tatters, and it was a 1967 1300 GT Jr. - so I passed it up...sigh. :|

I should have bought it!

Troy, top pic of the 3 is a study in art - that car is quite possibly the most beautiful car I've ever set eyes on. I feel your pain at passing up the basket case.
The good lady scenario will play out something like this:
Lady driving home, tired from the 7 hour flight. About 6 miles out from home, the car screeches to a halt - following vehicles concertina to a halt. She tenses at the wheel. Head alert, raised slightly - she take a barely perceptible sniff of the air. She smells guilt, and FEAR!!!!
Car is jammed into gear, wheels spin. Burning tracks of rubber blaze behind her. The road passes in a blinding blurr . Pedestrians will later swear they saw something, a streak, a flash, a screaming noise as of an engine at the limits of its life, but could not say for sure what it was - but, the wind, the momentary hurricane was frightening. They are wide-eyed.
Car screams into the drive, hand braking to a standstill, as a tidal wave of gravel sprays over the front of the house. Feet don't touch the ground as the back door is flung open. Paint on bonnet of car is bubbling and crackling.......
All is quiet. The house is spotlessly clean, smelling sweetly of air freshener, incense, and fresh spring flower - it's silent. I'm smiling welcomingly in the kitchen, sweating slightly.
The fear is palpable - my fear. I've been a bold boy. Broken the sacred rule. Betrayed the trust of the worlds one and only living Saint. She doesn't know this, just smells guilt and fear - wonders, why?
There's only one thing to do..........I come clean........sweetheart, I've been on a booze fuelled bender for the week....I was missing you........can't remember a thing........don't think I went to work.....may have danced naked round the garden......think the neighbours saw...........I feel awful........I'm ashamed......so glad you're home........cup of tea?
.....I'm sleeping with the dogs. But, I'm still married and the storm will pass, eventually.........I. I know she doesn't really believe me - but, she is a saint, and tolerates all my many faults.
She's happy to be home, and it's all in one piece. I have a memory that will last me a lifetime - smoking in my arm chair, in front of my fire, with my dogs.
Well, that's the plan - but.........it'll probably be as above, until the kitchen scene. She smells the merest hint of smoke. I'm in the dog house. Bugger!!!
Oh! Well! Time to light up another one. In for a penny, in for a pound ;-)

Klause, ha, you're a riot. That was a great scenario. Yeah, I've thought of doing the same thing, but haven't, and probably won't. I still like the thought of being able to smoke in my comfortable chair, with no wind or mosquitoes to contend with, heat, cold, wind, etc. But, I respect my wife's wishes, and I do want to honor her request, even though I am tempted to cast all care to the wind. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your experience. It has been a great adventure :puffpipe:
