Grasmere is easily the most in your face WTF thing I have ever smoked. I've never had Ennerdale but can't comprehend how anything could possibly be more "ground zero Lakeland" than Grasmere.
I love Grasmere, and hate Ennerdale. Grasmere has a very middle-eastern candy flavor (rose water Turkish Delight), which to my taste is nothing like what is in Ennerdale. I hate to give such a vague and unhelpful description, but Ennerdale to me is like scented soap. It’s interesting to me that someone can like one and hate the other, and then there are those that like both and group them together. The fun of our hobby!

+1 To me, Ennerdale tastes more like sweet almonds and vanilla, maybe pistachio ice cream, with a the floral note a bit further in the background. The aftertaste is wonderfully floral though. Grasmere is like getting beat over the head with a bouquet of roses! Sweet, delicious roses?

Exploring the variety of Lakeland flavors has certainly been a fun side trip on the journey of pipe smoking. I thought a Lakeland was just a Lakeland and had no idea that the added flavorings are so different from blend to blend until I started digging in. So far I think Bosun is my favorite with that dark fired and clove thing happening alongside the granny panties.

I confess... I have Lakeland fear. Sometime I think I should confront my phobia head on, but then I think of all the blends I already love that I don't have enough of and suddenly the idea of spending money on a bunch of Lakelands gets shelved.

It is interesting how they all have some similar tastes but are all so very different underneath. They certainly have explored the versatility of their product in the billion years they’ve been around.

A few big sniffs from of jar of Grasmere might be enough to cure your lakeland curiosity without ruining a pipe by actually smoking the stuff. As far as living in fear of granny panties goes ... I recommend seeking solace in a support group for those inflicted with the disorder.

Stay strong.

I managed to chase down a box of Ennerdale tonight and feel like @alaskanpiper must feel when he downs a moose. I remember when even in times of shortage generally, you could always find Ennerdale. Always. Sometimes Bob’s Chocolate and Rum Flake got a little tough, but you could dig and find them. Now?

Stay strong, @logs, stay strong. Maybe a support group for folks like you is needed.

I've only tried GH Brown Flake Scented and CCP. It's not that I dislike them. I just never feel like smoking them, so I never think to order the other scented blends. Kendal Cream I do outright dislike. At first I thought it smelled like puke. Then I realized that it's the smell of chew. A close association for me, apparently.

A lot of the higher nicotine Lakelands have a dip/chew smell to me as well, especially in the tin. Lakeland Dark and 1792 especially. But I don't get that smell from some of the more floral varieties like Ennerdale, Grousemoor, or Grasmere.

Really funny reading the replies in this thread. I always have a tin of Ennerdale sitting in the stash, my palate took to it naturally I guess.

I think Peterson Hyde Park is a rather easygoing floral blend to pop the Lakeland cherry, if you don't mind the relights.

I like a few of the GH&co Lakeland-esque blends. Having tried quite a few, I just found that some seem to give me a chemical headache, like maybe I breathed in some fumes from pile of burning Styrofoam. Some seemed more subdued and balanced with the tobacco flavors.

You know, the Brits aren't exactly known for their taste in flavors. Boiled meats and lame vegetables. I just don't understand where this whole Lakeland thing came from. Purity laws, yes, but to what the hell were they mixing tobacco with before that made Lakelands taste more pure... shredded rubber tires? chunks of sawdust? Actual soap? hair? WTF?

Tobacco Reviews to the contrary notwithstanding, Hyde Park is no longer made by GH. It was rubbed out Rum Flake.
