A few other interesting things that are more recent - they have a proprietary red VA cavendish and proprietary Perique grown on farms owned by Laudisi, C&Ds parent company.

Just chiming in here quickly to say that we don't own the Perique farm (31 Farms); it's owned by the Roussel family, who have been growing perique in St James Parish for generations. We have had a very close relationship with the Roussels since the farm's resurrection over the past few years, helping in various ways, both on the product side (Jeremy Reeves works very closely with them, of course) and on the business and tobacco regulatory side. We've been buying the farm's entire output, so, yes, it's proprietary, but in the looser sense that the output is a shared endeavor between C&D and 31 Farms and used exclusively in C&D's products.

So, while we're involved with them as close partners with a shared vision for making perique the right way, Laudisi does not own the farm.

And thanks everyone for loving on C&D in this thread!

…there are also smaller blenders…

So I’m not sure what’s considered appropriate nowadays, but smaller, being a comparative adjective, feels a bit dismissive to me. A quick google yielded a variety of more sensitive descriptions. Some are so obscure or elliptical as to verge on the arcane, which in today’s world may be a very good thing. Many are new to me and I look forward to road testing a few when I’m at the Chicago Show.

And we locals appreciate that C&D is keeping the Perique business whole. Throwing a rock in St James or St John and missing a member of the Roussel family takes some doing lol. A Roussel worked for me for like 8 years, though I don’t believe he was directly related to the perique farmers.

I also really appreciate when folks in the business post here. Thanks for all the great blends and the information.

"Pygmy" always makes me think of that line in the Sopranos about "that pygmy thing in Jersey"
