mso489, The Story of China" is a great series.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned "The Keepers" on Netflix. It's hard to watch because of the subject but it is superbly done and tells a compelling story.
You also mentioned the Great Courses CDs and DVDs. I second that recommendation. We get them from the library and binge watch college lectures on music, astronomy, religion and dozens of other subjects. We just finished 36 lectures on "Everyday Engineering". I can't believe I was never taught in school what I learned on these DVDs!

tuold, I may re-audit my Chinese history CD's. My wife got onto my fascination with the TV series and gave me Mao's little red book as a joke. I'd never even looked at before. Mao wrote poetry and novels during his life, and of course as an authoritarian leader his work was read and praised in China. I don't think those are translated, but the little red book reads as if written by a sociologist, except also politically doctrinaire. I guess if you want to control the peasants, put them to sleep. But I will read more. Perhaps there are livelier quotes than the ones I've seen. He's not a historical figure I admire, but he is credited for dragging the vastness of China into the modern age, besides instigating famines, chaos, and much violence. He was a crafty devil in getting factions to fight each other instead of him.

I haven't watched any of the Fargo series, only the original film, which was so unusual and superbly cast that is is easy for me to believe that it would be difficult to follow-up. It was so dark and yet playful. I'm dubious of Tarantino, but I somewhat felt that Fargo is what he would do, if he could, drop the S/M themes and impart some human content.
