Been curious about unfinished briar for a while so I went to Danishpipeshop for this one.

Not terribly thin, but still too thin for my liking.

I have an Eltang Sailor. It was a gift. Not my cup of tea visually, but it actually smokes well and the walls are quite thick.

Definitely minimalist function over form or visa versa I suppose? But I am sure we all have our views on what that looks good and if both can be achieved in the world of pipes? The perfect form and function? Has it ever been achieved can it?

Form is in the eye of the beholder. Function is engineering.

I have several pipes I would call perfect in form and function but you may disagree because your tastes may differ from mine regarding form. Achieving perfect function is simply math.

I have an Eltang basic and an Eltang "Deluxe" model (Arne- something). Both are okay but I agree with others on here who say the walls are thin. They work okay with Burley blends but a straight Virginia will heat them up pretty well.

Of all my higher end pipes, Eltang are my least favorite.

I recently purchased an estate rusticated Basic and it smokes beautifully. It doesn’t heat up and delivers an effortless cool smoke. All my smoking is done outdoors and usually on the move whilst I walk the dog.

It hasn't arrived yet!
But I think it will smoke wonderful, just as the other Eltang Basic I have.

Have to say I was quite surprised how well they smoke, the thin rusticated walls really dissipates the heat and the bowl is cooler than my thicker-walled Stanwells.
