I went back to the antique shop and they had two left. These were actually in better condition than the others but were in a different location so they probably were missed.
Those are awesome. Especially #2

With not a single photo in focus, I'd be wary of the eBay pipe.

Just a quick footnote. Sold as Iwan Ries house pipes, the full-size pipes were about $52 and the compact pipe was about $35, as I recall, and these were bought about six or seven years ago.

voorhees - I'm probably not going to do the resto on the #2 myself. It looks like whomever had it before the antique shop tried to sand the rim down. I just have to decide who to send it to now.

Edwards pipes are very good smokers, but often have fills that appear as the unstained briar darkens. I have a dozen of them, mostly Skippers, and I bought many in the 80's.

rig', looks like you have some distinctive Edwards with carving. My three pipes, mostly the two full-sized (about Group 5's) do have fills, but the fills are nicely done, not conspicuous, and none have popped out or changed color. Since this is good Algerian briar (by all accounts) I'm happy to have the pipes.

Vintage Edward's pipes are good smokers and so are vintage Algerian briar pipes made by Fred Diebel in Kansas City.
Those guys had an inside track to briar before Algeria's nasty civil war in the early 60's and they can be found on the Bay for very little money.
Sure, most are production pipes, but 15 to 20 bucks for a well made, well drilled, old briar burner is money well spent.
