My memory isn't what it used to be , but when I talked to the man at Watch City , he was familiar with EGR .

The problem , he said , was the unavailability of a particular tobacco .

Not sure what tobacco , didn't want to press him . Blenders are more secretive than the people guarding the KFC recipe .

Or , maybe he was just pulling my leg .........

...and it's gone again. Hope you all got some while it lasted!
It was gone literally by 11am, I checked 😂
I have better than a pound which is enough for me (not having been familar with it til just lately) but dang, it's def one of em that I really wish I'd discovered earlier.

I didn't even realize nearly how popular it was either... I bought a few pounds of #79 as a speculative play (I enjoy the occasional bowl but the anise isn't the love of my life) but now I'm wishing I'd have gone all in on Mr. EGR

Just a note , I ordered 2 lbs from WV SmokeShop Thursday . it arrived today !

That's 2 1/2 day delivery halfway across the country . Not sure who to thank , WV SS or USPS !
So glad you were able to shore up your stock though... I can tell it's one of your favorites.
We may not ever have as much as we want of anything, but at least having a few pounds is "enough" imo... Enough to break out a bowl out every week or 2 for the rest of time puffy

I wish I only had that much of McClelland Holiday Spirit :/
But at least I'm blessed to have enough for a bowl or 2 a year.
If there was one "sell your soul to that ole devil to bring back" blend it'd be that one for me and I only have a few tins left lol

I appreciate the heads up on the Sutliff 310.. I was able to get 1lb. I'll have to restrain and stretch that out along with the few 12oz tins of EGR I have. I can't see anyone making the gamble on trying to step into Sutliff's shoes. The world is too volatile to depend on consistent tobacco supplies. The big blenders must by freaking out a little these days.

I am afraid the little 'wagging finger' practitioners, perpetual school teachers and those super enlightened loons that gifted the world prohibition back in 1919 have run the tobacco trade out of the business. With all the talk about health I noticed an article little remarked upon about the surge in neck and throat cancer cases amongst the regular users of Marijuana. It will be interesting to see how long it takes our wonderful representatives in government to ban the smoking of that particular 'weed' in an effort to save the children! As to EGR I very nearly purchased a few tins of the stuff the other year and now wish I had just so I could have given them away to deserving people. I am right in thinking it was an aromatic tobacco right?

Technically, it's an aromatic, but it smokes more like an English that spent a little time around a wine cellar. The toppings remain very subtle. The original was even more subtle than the recent version.

I'm unaware of any anti-pipe smoking crusade . STG simply swooped in & shut down Sutliff .....because they could.........

I'm sorry if this is pedantic , but my memory comes & goes .
Why was Mac Baren/Sutliff even up for sale ? Were they un-profitable ?

They were put up for sale because the family heirs did not want to run a tobacco business. Their board saw the tobacco business as one with limited prospects and decided the family's money could be put to better use elsewhere. Simple as that.

They did not make enough money to consider not selling. Profit margins showed that most of their blends barely sold. And their top sellers survived. If all their blends sold like Molto Dolce, they’d still be around.
