OK, I bought a can of this from Paul's in flint today, largely because of this thread. Samples will probably be available for those who want it.

Actually this is pretty good, can was still intact. Probably try to organize my thoughts later tonight. Didn't like the tin aroma at all, smoked much better than its smell.

Doctorbob, if the tin rust didn't get into the tobacco it should smell and taste fine. Mine did. At least it will provide a daily allowance of iron.

I don't think the tobacco smells spoiled, just that the tin aroma doesn't really appeal to me. I'm having a hard time describing the taste, maybe like a port wine, sweet and soft. I can say that this tobacco doesn't bite me like the Larus production edgeworth flake does.

I've experienced no bite whatsoever either. The first codger-style aro that I've liked. Wish I'd found it back in the day when the only blends available to everyone in the places where I lived (for both old and young) were the OTC dreck.

I agree that this is a better than average aro, it is actually the inverse aro experience for me in that aromatics usually smell good in the tin, but don't translate to good taste or room note. I don't care for the tin note, but taste is good and room note is pleasant and soft. DGT is not a strength though, first time through was definitely more tasty than this morning. I will probably buy more if 14 ounces don't kill me.

I was warned a long time ago not to attempt DGT'ing aros. Or some oriental blends, particularly the latakia-forward ones. I only DGT some Virginias and vapers, in observance of that old advice. I only received a sample of the Edgeworth Red, so I'm very careful in smoking it slowly but at one sitting (or standing), and in the right pipe. I hope you continue to enjoy yours doctorbob. Now I can add yet another doctor to the ones that I know are pipe smokers.

Yeah, the DGT was a failure. I pretty much smoke Balkans and English style tobacco and don't mind delayed gratification with those. I have a ton of aros in the cellar in an effort to find one I really enjoy, but other than Great Outdoors, FMC, and a couple of others I have been unsuccessful.
This will hit the rotation while it lasts.

DGT'ing the English/Orientals overnight is no biggie; what was contraindicated to me is the real DGT, i.e., several days.

Yep....old thread, I know, but I just stumbled across it.
I smoked a lot of the Gold pouch when I was a poor college kid, and more when I was an even poorer Air Force captive. I don't recall ever trying the Brown, Blue, Red, or Green. I was too in love with the nutty caramel flavor of the Gold, It might not appeal to me the same today, but I keep looking nonetheless....hoping that I might stumble across some in some out-of-the-way country store....or, better, to find a current blend that tries to match it. I've written directly to Lane and STG in the past, but without any response. Sure was nice 'baccy', and I am also saddened that these seem to have been lost in the clouds. :crying:
I have yet to sample Lane's LLRR, but since I was never into the blue pouch, it's not high on my list.....but at least it's on the list.

I'm reviving this thread because I am currently smoking my first bowl of the Edgeworth Cavendish Natural (Brown). Here's the pouch description:
Achieves a hearty, satisfying flavor from the natural taste of red Virginia, Maryland, lemon leaf, burley, and Oriental tobaccos, lightly flavored with genuine hickory smoke. The final blend is pressed into cakes for an ideal "marriage" of the tobaccos, then cut cavendish to make it smoke smoother and longer.
I have reviewed the Blue, Red, and Gold. Now, I just need to find some of the Green.
