Their music was great...lyrics not so much. But Eddie was one of the all-time best. Sad to go that young. RIP.
His playing has forever changed how players think about guitar. R.I.P. Eddie.
Damn shame. My first cassette tape purchase was their 1984 album. Still have it.
Huge shock, just heard it on Sky News. Too late here (11:37pm) to play their first album but will be playing it tomorrow along with a large bourbon.

Bummer. Always hoped they’d get the original lineup back together again.
I am so sad about this, he was an absolute legend ...definitely an early catalyst for my life of guitar playing/obsessive nerdery.
I remember exactly where I was, and who I was with, when I heard Eruption for the first time. I wasn't a huge Van Halen fan (DLR's antics grew tiresome) but that guitar intro made a me a bona fide rock guitarist fan. Sad.
Not a fan myself but there is no denying his skill as a musician. He was a bad ass guitar player!

He had a great run. I just remember every guitar player in school carefully memorizing how to play the Eruption guitar solo as a stepping stone to a perceived mastery level, just after Stairway to Heaven. I imagine millions of retail staff in music stores across the country have gotten their fill of those two things over the years.
