I was on ebay "Christmas shopping" and some how stumbled across the estate auctions, which was not my intent. Any hoo I liked the looks of this pipe. I have never seen the brand before so I threw a $19 bid at it and was surprised it won Even more surprising to me anyway this $19 La Rocca smokes better than any of my Pete's, or Sav's but not quite as good as my meers.

Sure. There are plenty of "no name" pipes that will smoke really well. Over the years there have been hundreds of pipe brands, many frequently made by the big names and branded for others. But it's a crap shoot. At least buying a Savenelli or Peterson gives you a reasonable chance of a well smoking pipe. Enjoy!

Edit: Oh, I see that La Rocca is a bargain brand. I was thinking this was an older pipe and one of the brands I was describing above. Looks like they are very much still in business. Glad that you've found a nice treasure.

Pipedia:
Since the late 1800’s, this third generation pipe making family has been carving excellent quality pipes for very reasonable prices. Considered one of Italy's best selling lines, La Rocca has many styles, shapes, and finishes from which to choose. Today the company is headed by Fabio La Rocca.

The Peterson that was inherited from my father was bought in the 70' is an excellent pipe, the two I have bought one in the 90's and one this past year are junk. The Savenelli's I have bought from the early 2000's are decent pipes, but three times the price of the "cheap no name" ebay pipe.
