Ebay for Newbies

Fantastic guide sable and the additions from others have made this thread bookmark if not sticky worthy.
Saved searches are a pretty great thing except when sellers are inaccurate in their descriptions or unaware of what they are trying to sell - probably an indication not to buy from them though. I have a saved search for 'Lovat" in tobacianna and the daily emails are so watered down with pipes that certainly are not Lovat's that it isn't very useful. I'll admit it's a user (my) error not ebay's.

Yep, generic searches can be too broad.
I have seen some pretty good deals due to an uneducated sellers misspellings. Sasieni is a frequent mistake. I know guys who have searches set for different spellings of that brand. Again it pays to have a specific focus.

The response here has been magnificent. It has truly become an amazing guide to Ebay pipe shopping. Whether sticky or not it's in my favorites. Reading everyone's experiences gets me so excited and interested in joining the bidding war. I know far too little to even begin bidding but I will be watching items as they come and go and getting familiar with all the concepts submitted here.
