I honestly haven't seen this much dishonesty till I started smoking pipes. It is a little heart breaking because I love the hobby.

I just received an eBay pipe that was advertised as reamed, cleaned and shined. Thank God it wasn't! It was filthy as heck! Some of these sellers just butcher pipes "cleaning" them up for sale. I'd rather they didn't touch them. I gave him glowing feedback.

I applaud you for considering the choices and leaving Positive Feedback. Mistakes happen and some sellers are not very knowledgeable when dealing with pipes. Seeing that the seller tried to make it right, you did the correct thing. Had he not offered to refund your money it would have been a different story. negative feedback should only be left under extreme circumstances. You did well my friend. Hats off to you.

:)

@lonestar - I wouldn't have worried if I stuck the pipe cleaner in and it had some discoloration, but this wasn't some rubbed off cake. It was thick, black tar and goop. One pass of the pipe cleaner had it half-covered. Combined with the ghosting, I am taking the seller's word that he simply might have missed this one.

He did offer to make things right, and mistakes do happen ( yes that was an awful one .)You did clean them by this point and you felt that there would be no cause to send it back for refund or a proper cleaning. So I would consider your private message with him as solved. Leave good feedback just mention it was abit dirty.

Totally agree with positive feedback. The guy screwed up, and offered to make it right. Sometimes I screw up. Offering to make it right shows you he is an honest dude. That's a positive feedback.

To be honest, I'd be relieved and happy. Some of those "professional" cleanings that ebay sellers offer have been done in their basement with an old bottle of Pinesol. Unless the pictures clearly show a minty shiny pipe, you are better off refurbishing yourself or letting a guy you trust do it ;-) My 2 cents.

I have only left bad feedback on one occasion. Bought two estate pipes that were completely bogus crap, stems didn't match bowls at all, were not the Kaywoodies he claimed them to be, etc. These were $5 estate pipes, so I wasn't expecting much, but a complete and total misrepresentation and lie were too much.
Had a guy claim he thought had a Comoys Wimbledon for sale cheap, and it turned out to be a Briar Master Wimbledon. I didn't think it to be a Comoys from the start, but I was intrigued. It is a pipe still regular in my rotation. I took it for an honest mistake by someone who just saw "Wimbledon" stamped on a pipe, and assumed it was a Comoys for that reason. And it didn't go for a Comoys price. Good feedback left.
Recently had a seller fail to include an item (multiple purchase) in the delivery. I contacted them, and with held feedback until I got a feel fro their response. They were apologetic, and had it to me in a few days, nos questions asked. They got the same feedback I would have left had they sent all the items correctly (positive). That was an honest mistake, and they took care of it.
I got bad feedback once, on a sale on my part, when I sold a large piece of home electronics. I sold it at a price, and the shipping was to be figured after the sale, based upon the desires of the buyer. The buyer wanted me to ship it overnight and insure it heavily, which I did, and (my mistake) sent it out on the agreement that he would paypal me the difference. He never did, and then left bad feedback saying I asked too much for shipping. I was ticked that he screwed me on the shipping AND left bad feedback about the cost of it, and he never assumed the cost. Live and learn.
