Depending on how often you buy and sell on eBay, there is no listing fee. At least for the first 200 or so items a month.
Sniping is a great way to win eBay auctions, just don't make the same mistake I did. I thought sniping meant hacking the computers of people watching the auctions, getting their IP addresses and running them through the NSA address data base to get the location where they live. Then you figure out who you think the high bidder will be, set up a hide about 800 meters out with visibility to their computer location, adjust for windage and elevation, wait for the auction to come to a near a close and take them out. Then I found out "sniping" is just a co-opted term, meaning to bid in the last few seconds of the auction. This was of course after I had spent $5000 on a military grade rifle and scope (and spent a small fortune to learn to use it) and 4 different scenario ghillie suits. Just as I was lined up for a good melon shot on Thomas J Berm of Winfield, Indiana and win a nifty Dunhill Red Bark, my friend called me and explained what ebay sniping was. DOH! (He couldn't have picked up the phone earlier?) What a big mea culpa that would have been on me! So embarrassing! I was elated I didn't have to commit homicide to get that pipe (seriously, it was a super nice pipe and they rarely come up for auction) and then super pissed about all the money I spent. I was able to unload the scope & ghillie suits but you know what you can't sell on ebay? A military grade sniper rifle! So now it just sits there in the corner of the living room as a reminder of my ignorant folly with fairy light branches stuck down the barrel my kid put on it! My postman has been having a hard time lately, maybe I'll give it to him to cheer him up.
