Welcome to the forums. I'm a bowl or 2 a day but somedays none at all.
I would suggest you think about venturing out a bit more in your tobacco's. Maybe a virginia burley or virginia perique blend. Or perhaps an English or more oriental leaning blend.

The sweet lingering of a bowl on my shirt or jacket is one of the great pleasures of pipe smoking.
Absolutely, the whiff of the black cavedish aroma is fine oN my jacket.....there's an associated cigarette ash tray odor that comes through, perhaps it's because I've never been a smoker of any sort and I'm hyper aware of it or something, IDK. The stale stink that lingers on a cigarette smoker comes to mind, but not giving up on it yet, I'm enjoying myself at the moment.

Old stale smoke reeks. You'll soon learn to ignore or accept it.
I find that only smoking outdoors really minimizes this. And clean your pipes regularly (on my chore list for tonight).

Do you smoke Balkans? They certainly don't smell like cigarettes. They leave the room and my clothes smelling sweet.
Well I haven't yet, will have to try sometime....I did just order some Hearth & Home Berry Nice.

Nice informative post, Mr. p! Welcome to the forum, and I hope you keep up with your observations of your journey. There seems to be no aspect of this hobby/pastime/pleasure that doesn't have adherents to completely opposite points of view, be it pipe size, shape, maker, style; tobaccos—blend, cut, supplier; packing and smoking "technique" and on and on. All p.o.v.'s are welcome!

Man...that's the truth! The tobacco reviews at smokingpipes.com are at both ends of the spectrum for the same blend....it's interesting.

"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"
Love it!

Just so no one thinks I am the one who came up with the quote lol. Must have proper citiation afterall. It was Hunter S. Thompson see below no APA format for me anymore!
As for Murphy's laws of combat you can Google that and find many. I also as a Machinegunner always liked: "Tracers work both ways." Oh so true!
Last one, I love these so true yet in the proper black humor needed, if you don't laugh your going to cry after all. Not to mention they, mostly, have some information you had better keep in mind a silly saying just might keep you and your Dupers alive. "If it is stupid but it works, it is not stupid."
OK, this really is the last one I swear! "All chest wounds suck!"
(For those who do not understand what is funny in that one Google sucking chest wound which should clear it up, or PM me and I will explain.)

Welcome to the forum, Chuckp. I like your avatar, he was quite a man. How much I smoke ? It depends on how big of a bole of tobacco I am smoking and what type of tobacco.

Evenings 2 or 3 nights a week, with friends I smoke 2-3 small boles of tobacco mostly of a burley blend. On weekends It may be 2 or 3 large and small boles of VA or VAPer flakes a day. It all depends on my time and opportunity.

Love the avatar, chuckp. Is it an actor portraying Lincoln? Or something quite different. In any event, do you have a larger version of the image and could/would you share it?

That is the Irish born actor Barry Fitzgerald, love his movies.....Try and see the 1952 movie "The Quiet Man", with John Wayne. I saw it the other night on TCM.

Chuck, you'll find a tobacco or several that you will like everything about and that is what you'll stick with. Buy in small quantities so as not to have much if you don't like them. There's plenty of fellas here to take them off your hands if you find you don't like them. Enjoy your experience and remember you have 30 less years of not smoking than most guys so you've got that going for you.
