i am watching frankenstein movie 1931 version - the father is smoking a pipe - shank about 1 foot long bent behind the bowl looks like a porcelain with a hinged cover bent mouth piece to reach his mouth - NOW THAT'S A PIPE.
if you catch the movie "lost horizon " one of the characters smokes a pipe also a 1 foot shank
an antique shop here in toronto had an old 1700-early 1800 3 foot pipe - yes 3 feet shank - with a blue white porcelain bowl also hinge cover about 6" from bottom also curved mouth piece - - he wanted $2k us funds - cheap for the age & antiquity of the pipe.
i have an old calabash from early 1900 meerschaum insert bowl & a heavy thick curved stem, real gourd shank - awesome.
the great carvers back then sure knew beauty

Posting photos would be appreciated by many here.
Once your photos are on a photo hosting site (such as Imgur.com; Photobucket; Postimage; Dropbox, etc.), or on virtually any site, select the full image, then Control-click (Mac) or Right-click (Windows) on the image itself, then choose copy image location. Now paste that URL (the full web address, which should end in .jpg) into the IMG box in the reply window of the thread you're posting to.

I'm making a correction regarding images posted from Imgur. Imgur will offer you the choice to copy your image location already formatted for forums. Double click on the image you want to post here, which will bring up a separate page that shows a row of formatting options on the right side. Select the bbcode option to copy your image. Then go to the reply window and paste it in. DO NOT USE THE IMG BUTTON! WITH PRE-FORMATTED IMAGES IT ISN'T NECESSARY!! If you paste an already formatted image into the IMG window it will not appear in your post.

The method I posted above works fine with Imgur, and virtually every other image you find on the net. I'd like folks to avoid selecting the right box to copy, as even within Imgur the choices can vary. For those very familiar with image embedding, of course, use whatever method is fast and easy for you. But for those new to such, I'd suggest avoiding those boxes.
