Yet another fun evening was had at the clubhouse in Oshawa last night.
Some big news as brdavidson revealed our newly minted club name and logo... which I'm hoping he'll do in another thread here as we set sail under our new flag. As a present to all club members he also handed out club business cards to all in attendance. Classy move sir!
My highlights of the night were:
- Sharing some Stonehaven that Dervis kindly sent up... this was my first taste of Stonehaven, but also my first burley/aged Virgina flake. I thought that the tobacco was peachy and sweet, with some nice resonant dried fruit notes, but was surprised by how soft and mild the bowl was. The moisture level was perfect for a fold and stuff and I enjoyed the bowl thoroughly (as did three or four other guys! thanks Dervis!)
- Breaking in my new Mario Grandi. I bought the pipe (pics later) because of it's big ass bowl, short length and wonderful grain/eyes. This is my first experience with an acrylic stem, and I have to say... the hardness really doesn't bother me. I now begin to see what Kashmir has been preaching for a moths.
- The pipe cabinets/stands that club member Ed makes. New member Ed showed up with some lovely finished pipe cabinets, with rests for between 10 and 15 pipes, plus a shelf with drop-down door for tools, tobacco, cleaners, etc. Ed's a cabinet maker and I'm sure I'll be picking one of these up. With prices at less than $200 for his largest cabinet, they're a steal.
- Hanging with a bunch of pipe guys with the game on in the background. Good conversation, good 'baccy, good guys, good times.
Happy Friday friends,
-- Pat
