Even Dunhill themselves are incosistent, I have two 3104 (group three bulldog with a taper stem) made in 2018 and 2019 that have around 30% difference in chamber volume, the larger one is similar with another 3104 I own made in 1973, the smaller one is very similar to a 2104 I've seen listed elsewhere.

Even Dunhill themselves are incosistent.
Most Dunhill collectors that have many Dunhills have confirmed this on here over and over throughout the years, but people still insist that the Group sizes mean something to them. I only have one, so I can't confirm, but it does seem odd that people stick to group sizes like gospel.

Evidence, one's own eye, will often not change a person's belief. If the Dunhill numbers mean nothing except to the first handler of the "blank", than life has no meaning to the "true believers" in the false malarkey which was imparted on them by unknowing/ignorant but, well-meaning mentors. bdw

Ever since I learned about Dunhill group sizes I have always used them as a guide, not a sure thing. I have one Dunhill pipe and it is a 1966 Dunhill LB. It is a group 5 sized pipe to my eye. The inside bowl specs are a 5 but the outside could belong to a group 6 based on size of pipe, wall thickness and weight of pipe.
When I am looking at Dunhill pipes on line I don't have to waste my time looking at group 1 or 2 or ODA. A goup 3 to one person could be a 4 to me so I look

One of the first things I learned about pipes was that it is a hobby with almost every aspect of what someone tells you is complete malarky...

SP and other online retailers that give a full list of specifications by measurement have won me over, and I haven't bought a pipe by Group size in a long while. SP gives the chamber depth and diameter, the weight, and actually commit to naming a probable shape despite all the variables. They've been wrong on the material of the stem once or twice, but not in a way that mattered to me.
