To further add to rothnh's point on group sizing and the general confusion on Dunhill stamping: I have a pipe that Dunhill have blessed with the number 42841S. I'm not afraid to admit my pinkie is on the small side of normal, but I can only just squeeze it halfway in. Second from left:

allan: I think you made a good decision to return the amber flame, because Dunhills in NYC is vastly overpriced compared to a few internet stores. As to whether the amber flame smokes better, you will get a lot of opinions. Personally I like smoking the root briars best, but they are rare and expensive. The amber root briars have a taste which does not taste quite as good and requires more breaking in. I have only one amber flame and it has a slightly different stain, as far as my taste detects, which is a good one. (Stains determine the taste of a briar until it is very much smoked). But that is only one pipe. The fact is that the actual direction of the grain does not affect the taste of the pipe. It can be straight or flame, crossgrain or random. It is important that is be tight with a minimum of soft wood. My amber flame has a very tight grain and smokes unusually well. Hope this is some help.

Sorry to hijack the thread but Cajun you mentioned Navy Special Forces, judging by your age and experiance is it too big a jump to assume Under Water Demolition Teams? My Uncle was UDT21 through the war.
Cheers,
Sorry again for the hijack. Although I do own one Dunhill and do love it for the nostalgia it brings.

Thank you very much, gents. I just received a Hungarian estate Dunhill from 'neatpipes' in Milan. I guess this is one of my favorite shapes of all. I'm smoking it now and it seems like a great pipe.
I will try to post a picture tomorrow.

i will admit Dunhill pipes are over priced but I have owned several of them and you can still find estate Dunhills at a decent price but most people on the auction sites see Dunhill and just bid them way way over priced. but they are great smokers but to be honest you are mostly paying for name but the briar is flawless and as far as i know they are completely hand made. another thing i have noticed about them is the stem just seem to hold up amazingly well. but for your money i would suggest either a Comoy or a Parker you end up with a pipe that is amazing and alot better price especially if your buying new.

Hi folks
The first two images are of the Dunhill limited edition pipe rack/humidor. It has a built in pipe tamper and pipe tool poker/cleaner. Also, 2 slots for pipe cleaners.
It is really an elegant box, although I can't figure out what to do with the huge container to hold pipe tobacco?? After all, most tins come 50 grams, yes?
The 3rd image is of my newly acquied estate Hungarian Dunhill from Neat pipes in Milan. I really love this pipe.
Thank you for looking and Happy New Year to everyone.
