So whatever became of Dunhill Apertif? Did Peterson pick up this bend along with the other Dunhill offerings, or was Apertif simply put to pasture and therefore, discontinued?
I came here because I was wondering why only 8 (?) Blends were reproduced and not all of them. I tried to do an online search but I also admit I'm not sure where to look. Anyone know?
I’m just guessing here, but it’s almost certainly something in the profit / cost analysis that made them decide to drop a few. Could be lower demand but it probably had something to do with the cost to produce / market as well.
Honestly some of the marketing lore is so esoteric that it might involve funny hats and crystal balls, but if it means more profit the money men will twig the secret of it.
While I agree with verporchting's guess, I have my own wild speculations/wishful thinking that they are saving some of the blends for a 2nd wave of rereleases. A few blends that weren't exactly fast sellers were rereleased by Dunhill not too long ago so there was still a ton sitting on B&M shelves and in e-tailers warehouses. I'm hoping they are just letting the overstock of Ready Rubbed and 3 Year Matured run out and the few remaining honey pots of Aperitif and BB1938 dry up before re releasing them along with label staples like London Mix, Ye Olde Signe, Dark Flake, etc.I think this is a very good guess ?
If they do a second wave of re-releases then I can certainly see that working to their benefit. While I agree with verporchting's guess, I have my own wild speculations/wishful thinking that they are saving some of the blends for a 2nd wave of rereleases. But it's really no surprise they rereleased the blends that they did. EMP/965/Nightcap is the English smokers trifecta "All day rotation". Flake, Elizabethan, and Navy Rolls are the VA/VaPer core, Standard is the Standard, and Royal Yacht is..... special.
I'd love to see another 8 or 9 tin release that includes Durbar, Aperitif, and London Mixture in the lineup.
