I've read notice of CAO's disclosure, yet to be made public plan to start selling

them at the trade show in New Orleans August 9-13th. This news comes from

Byron Oost, who posted that his Rep called him up to advise him on this matter.

The blends will be limited to: Deluxe Navy Rolls; The Royal Yacht; Standard Mixture;

Early Morning Pipe; My Mixture 965; Nightcap; London Mixture; Standard Mixture Medium;

Three Year Mature Virginia; Standard Mixture Mild; Flake and Light Flake. These

blends will be the Orlik production.

Yeah good news. Another tobacco that you will have to be in the right place at the right time to purchase before the hoarders snatch it all from under your nose. I stopped yearning for blends that I used to love that are either scarcely available or not available. I tried for months and months to get my hands on just one friggin' tin of Penzance or Full Virginia Flake...etc. Now I have stopped jumping through hoops and am enjoying the tobaccos that are readily available. I can only hope that these blends will actually be "available". I would really enjoy smoking a bowl of Light flake or London Mixture.

Yes, the rush will be on initially and the supply lines will be depleted

quickly for a couple of months. Likely, Orlik has ample amount of these

blends, as this was rumored to have already been released months earlier,

but CAO was bought out and the distribution has apparently been rescheduled.

Like others, I can wait as there's plenty to smoke around here.

Yeah I miss EMP and 965 too. And Night Cap...now that is one of the few tobaccos marketed as a before bed tobacco that lives up to the marketing.

The Orlik issue of the Dunhill blends is different from the Murray's.

Some have found favor in these new versions, while others have not.

Change is always encountered in the tobacco trades as the players come

and go and the availability of blend components ebb and flow. There has

been quite a lot of discussion about 'the good old days' in the last two

years that Dunhill blends have not been in distribution outside of Europe.

What should be interesting will be how sales in North America look after

the initial rush to buy them.

We heard news of this directly from Orlik while we were there three days ago, but we were sworn to secrecy until we could get an official statement from management at British American Tobacco, which owns Scandanavian Tobacco Group, which owns Orlik.
It seems the sales reps weren't sworn to secrecy though. It's too bad, as we were going to make a huge publicity splash with this.
I spoke to a gentlemen on the phone at BAT and he confirmed that Dunhill was coming back to the American market. We were waiting on confirmation of the availability date, and the importer / distributor, although we pretty much guessed it would be CAO.
We were told that regular production is scheduled for August, so I imagine that stock will be available in the US sometime in Sept.
The trade show referenced is IPCPR, which is for the trade only. The general public is not allowed in. I will be there and try to procure some samples.

As a quick follow up to Kevin's comment, what Orlik said is that it was going back into production for the US starting in August. I'm guessing the RTDA reference is to CAO taking preorders from their retailers and distributors. I'm a bit bummed that this was leaked this way too! Kevin and I were on the chase for an official response from BAT there.

I'd go ahead and make the huge publicity splash with this Kevin. Most of

the Pipe community is either oblivious or skeptical, as this announcement

had been made earlier, with no results and no explanation as to why it

fell through. My source has doubts about the voracity of the Rep's claims...

The IPCPR is a big deal and although the general public is not permitted

admittance, there is a provision for paid admissions, sponsored thru a B&M

dealer. I've been invited on 2 separate occasions to attend, but my

financial limitations prevented me from accepting the offers.
