Drying Effect

Can opening & closing the cellaring jar too much to load a pipe dry the tobacco any?

You’re exposing it to air every time you open it, but any drying would be negligible if sealed soon thereafter… or at least that’s my experience. I’ll occasionally move about 2 oz. into a pouch, and then load from it as opposed to constantly going back to the jar.

I have 28 6oz (jelly) jars I use for blends in rotation, but to answer your question, I don't think you will dry out the tobacco by occasionally opening your jars.

I load straight from a 12 ounce can of Granger until it’s gone. The top layer can get a bit dryer, but that’s what I’m loading up with so, win-win.

If you’re looking to age something, then leave it alone or.. better, use smaller jars that once opened you can smoke through in reasonable time. That way the rest of your tobacco stays airtight. — If you believe that aging does much.
