I stick mostly to the non-aro's, but i recently began smoking Peter Stokkebye's Luxury Twist Flake.
I like it but the last third of the bowl gathers a ton of moisture. I went from 6 hours dry time to 24 hours and my last flake was dried 48 hours. At 48, I finally got to the bottom on the bowl without the waders.
Don't be afraid to "over dry" until you find the happy spot. Worst case, you "ruin" one bowl. Best case, you live happily ever after.

I did not intentionally run the experiment, but when I found an old baggie full of aromatic from years before and decided to try it, the flavoring had mostly faded yet hung on as a sort of memory, the tobacco remained reasonably good, and the blend was surprisingly good, against all likelihood. I thought this shouldn't be happening, but it's true. Probably not a dependable method, but worth a try if the situation arises.

I dried some MB Vanilla Flake and I think I got it too dry. It smoked good, but I didn't notice as much vanilla as I did on the last time I had some. The tobacco still tasted very good though...I am really loving that blend!

Sounds like trial and more trial and maybe a small possibility for error!! I’m try out a few different methods and see what

Works!! Last night I put what I was gonna smoke today on the dresser in some small Tupperware without the lids and this morning they

We’re perfect so about eight hours in my house at 72 degrees dried them ok without losing any flavor

Like it or not,in the past few months I have become something like a fan of the traditional British Over the counter blends, particulary,St Bruno, Condor Long cut,Erinmore and the Original Flakes(formerly known as Walnut)all those have light secret'topping/flavoring'in the sense of a faint floral&fruity and vinegary note, now I wonder if these aforementioned brand names may benefit from any aging?

I used to have issues with wet aromatics esp. because I live in a pretty humid climate.

Microwave or oven is usually overkill and does take out some flavor but some people have gotten it down to a tee.
I dry mine out for 2-5 days. Sometimes I just let it dry inside the pipe for about 5-7 days. It will almost feel bone dry but not quite. I prefer it to be around 1/2 - 3/4 of the way dry but not 100% dry that it just crumples up into dust when handling it.

Climate has an effect on your smoke as well. So all the sound advice given here must be weighed up against the climate in which you live. I saw someone from Nevada comment that relative humidity there was 5-8%. Where I live it never goes below 50%. Today is a clear, sunny day, a little cool and breezy. RH is 70%. Often it is 90-100%. I need to dry all my tobacco as much as I possibly can, and it's still never really enough, so I've started packing only 2/3 or 3/4 bowls in order to shorten my smokes, as they inevitably build up moisture, no matter how dry the tobacco and how slow my smoking is.

That someone was wrong. Humidity there doesn't get that low in Las Vegas, and it fluctuates from a morning average of 39% RH to an afternoon average of 20%. And averages can be misleading. Further, it's higher in the Winter and lower in the Summer.
Your point is right on. What someone does in 'Bama has little or no bearing on what one should do in Montana.
Oh, on your time at 70%RH, why not try to dry down several tons of tobacco?

Ok. I wouldn't know. Nevada is a looong way from here. I tried drying and jarring larger quantities, two tins each of several blends. For some reason it didn't appeal to me. I have no idea why, but my smokes were bland and flavorless. Eventually I put the tobacco back into the unsealed tins and liked it better. There are many things that I still don't understand about pipesmoking, so I am trying to simplify things. Not too many open tins at a time, get to know a blend before moving on to the next etc.

My two cents here is this: Aromatics are an oddity in the sense that the (Water)Steam is what carries much of the flavouring. So a dry aromatic tobacco will loose some of its flavor. At the same time if its too wet its not going to stay lit, cause gurgling and burn too hot and also loose flavor. Its kind of a balance act.
