Now I'll admit there are some absolutely spectacular chardonnays out there but for ~ $15/bottle I've yet to find a white that can compete:

I *love* off-dry rieslings, but at that price point (or even slightly less), I head for the Chateau Ste. Michelle offerings. And I’ll also drink the heck out of off-dry gewurtztraminers as well, bringing a slight spiciness to the game. Very refreshing and complimentary to DFK blends, to my palate.

Rieslings are true bargains, in comparison.
My favourites are Mosels kabinetts and spatleses. I love their fruit purity, crispness and racy acidity
Great as an afternoon tipple or Asian cuisine (Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai) that is commonplace in Oz.
Alsace is, of course, a producer of great dry Rieslings.
Austria have a few excellent producers.
There are increasingly more dry Rieslings coming from Germany
Australia produces a lot of Rieslings.
I am not a huge fan as I find them often hard and phenolic.
And I have problems with the petrol/kerosene character that afflicts a great many of them.

I really envy people who like wine and can discuss them intelligently.
This is one of my favorite Kabinett offerings as well. Just introduced my air b&b host to this very bottle weeks ago while in Florida developing property. Great stuff for those that like a little residual sugar. She loved it, too. 
The cheapest one i know of that is dry and decent is Chateau Ste Michelle's Dry Reisling, as @khiddy noted. Also, it does head a bit into the petrol flavor profile, but unlike @OzPiper that's not really a turn off to me, just another flavor profile that's unique and fun to explore.
I'm typically more of a Loire Valley / Marlborough, NZ Sauv Blanc fan, especially with seafood dishes. The Kabinett is something i bust out in summer as a stand alone sipper with it's fruity zing.

I find reisling weird in the fact that price point doesn't seem to mean as much as it does with other wines. Have had more expensive ones that were borderline bland and cheaper ones that popped and had complexity to them. I haven't drank a ton of wine or as I call it mommies grape juice, but did have fun helping the restaurant I worked at figure out which ones to stock.
Oh, one more suggestion that i remembered while chopping wood that i've had a few times is Dr. Loosen Blue Slate. Great price at Costco and more zippy than the Chateau Ste Michelle Dry. Almost feels as if it's a bubbly.
