Does anybody here do dry snuff? I just got two kinds from the local B&M to try it. I had never heard of it before, and am always up for trying new things. I think I like it. Any tips or suggestions?

are you talking nasal snuff? Just use a very small amount until you see what its like.

I like Ozona brand President.

The menthol or camphor blends pack a punch. put about an 1/8 diameter on your finger, close one nostril and snort it up the other.

I have tried it a few times, but my cup of tea lol. Plus I made a big mistake of using to much and had a serious head rush/headache for about 10 minutes lol.

"Thats nothing to sneeze at" the saying actually goes back to snuff days. A man in that era was suppose to be able to hold his snuff without sneezing if his conversation was to be taken seriously..

I like a bit every now and again, and the idea is to get it into the nasal passage and not further back than that. . . Snuff bothers me because it is more than a bit unappealing to see someone use it and I would never use it in public heh heh.

Yes, dry snuff is my primary nicotine, since I quit smoking cigarettes 2 years ago. I love my pipe, but can't use it all day at my desk at work. :( Yes, using dry snuff in 'public' can be uncomfortable, but once it's been explained to people, they're generally understanding.
I agree with Lawrence, it's not a snort or a deep intake of breath, but a light sniff. Enough to get the snuff into the front of your nose and not any further. If you snort, you'll surely be in for a world of hurt. :crying:
I'd recommend McChrystal's O&G for a menthol for new users, and just about any Toque or Wilsons of Sharrow snuff for a non-menthol choice to try. Unfortunately, they're probably not the ones at your local tobacconist. I find that the Poschl snuffs available at your local tobacconist are over mentholated and can be easy to overdo. Poschl snuffs are like your typical over-flavored aromatic... :)
Samuel Gawith snuffs are great (and some share flavoring from their pipe tobaccos!), but usually only available in 'tap boxes', and they tend to dry out too quickly from those containers. Only purchase them in the 25g containers, not the 10g boxes.
The last time I recommended dry snuff on this forum, I was compared to a drug addict. :( If you want to discuss nasal snuff in a more understanding environment, visit snuffhouse.org. :)

awesome stuff... thanks for your advice everyone, especially puffpuff. I've only used Polschl Snuff, the cherry flavor and packards club. I really like them, but even so, I'm not a big menthol fan so it's nice to know some other stuff.

I used some American stuff back in the seventies and really liked it.
There's a little brown bottle of Levi Garrett in my collection that's been sealed for over a hundred years......been tempted a time or two to see if it's any good! Naahhh.

My great grandmother from south Texas used to "dip" Levi Garrett snuff. I tried it one time when I got older, the stuff turned to mud and ran all over my mouth, yuck.

In this part of the country I was suprised to find out how many other guys had grannies that partook of the sweetsnuff! Grandma Mann always had small coffee can covered with tin foil on the floor beside her rocker. She grew up on a small farm in Pleasonton Tx, and was ninety something when she passed away back in the early '60's.
Now you've got me wanting to try some of the European stuff Nate.

The way I used to use snuff was to dump a spot on my thumbnail about the size of peppercorn, and like IowaMike said; pinch one nostril shut and suck it up.

You'll know immediately if you got the amount right!

Nice... Though my grandmother cut far to much tobacco in her day to become a user. And hey, go for it, get some snuff.. you might find an old friend from it! I pretty much dump a pea sized or so lump into my "poor man's snuffbox" and hit one nostril real lightly (just enough to get it in there) then dump some more in and hit the other nostril. It's super refreshing and being a security guard working long night shifts, I certainly need something to wake me up every now and then. Caffeine does nothing for me, so I'd usually smoke a bowl, but that doesn't work near as well as dry snuff for me.

What is the appeal of snuff? Is it the N hit or can you influence smell or taste?
Obviously, I've never tied it.
