Dropped Cob.

Was having a very nice second bowl of the day. It was gonna be a short one. Loaded a cob with CH, went outside without drink or music. About half way through the bowl, decided I wanted some drink. Set the pipe down on the side table. Got up and made a slight turn and ran into the side table. Heard something falling. It was the cob pipe. Amazingly, no damage to the cob. But all the tobacco fell out. A very sad event. Not as bad as spilling beer, but still hurts.

Cobs are so light weight, they can fall without damage, as we see. I guess you could have salvaged the tobacco, but why bother. Or maybe the wind got it.

I miss that about cobs. I'm so careful with my meerschaum. I used to drop my cobs all the time without worry....

Cobs will survive a drop. Briars will too, except for when they're dropped on concrete. Then they get pock-marked. And acrylic bits will snap off, unless you're lucky. Meerschaum can be dropped. On carpet. Ask me how I know.
