I am average taste/smeller (I think?). But until age 50 I had 20/10 vision in both eyes. Most people think 20/20 is the best. It’s not. My first job out of college was with Texas Instruments. They gave me a deep dive eye exam because of the job I would be doing. The lady giving me test said I was first person she had seen in her 23 years that scored 100%. I can (could) read road signs before others even saw the sign ahead. It’s great but my eyes are very sensitive to light. I squinted most of my childhood from light sensitivity and now I look like I am a mean frowning old man.
I guess the glasses in your avatar are merely to conceal your true superhero identity.

Ha ha, I kid. I have no idea what my eyesight was, but I too was a squinter. I can't imagine how terrible it was to live back in the times before sunglasses. Now, I have an RX for lenses, but I am more distracted by bifocals than just not wearing them. I wear them to read, but mostly I really don't have any problems seeing. At my workbench, I have to wear magnifiers anyways, so...

I'm in my late 50s and my vision used to be 20/15 now it is 20/13 but I can no longer read anything up close so I need cheaters. I would rather be 20/20 and not need cheaters

That’s me. At age 50 I started needing readers. I am now up to 1.75 .

Your salivating due to probably smoking too quickly. I bet you also get tongue bite and the pipe is possibly too hot to touch. You may also be reacting to too much nicotine at-once and your body is reacting to that.

Sugar is the antidote for too much nicotine and Cuban workers eat sugar cubes while smoking cigars while "laying bricks" allegedly.

Buy a sugar soda (such as Mexican CocaCola, Boyland's, Pepsi Throwback, etc.) not High Fructose Corn Syrup, and sip the true-sugared soda. This should solve your problem. That and slow down and you won't drool so much.

This is potentially some really bad advice - sorry wizard. Hope you don't mind I call you wizard ;) Smoking is bad for the gums and teeth - that's a fact. Everyone in my family who smoked heaters (cigs) for more than 10 years lost most if not all their teeth - denture time. Adding sugar to the mix is a recipe for disaster unless of course you go above and beyond with mouthwash, oral hygiene and neutralizing treatments. Everyone is different and I am sure there are some who can abuse themselves to the nth degree and get away with it but proceed with caution if you do. inspect your gums often and maybe hit the dentist 3x a year.

For more reading go here..."This review presents evidence that smoking increases salivary flow rate and calcium concentration, and tends to produce stimulated saliva of a relatively high pH which may favour the mineralization of plaque in smokers."

The more you know.

I do get cleanings 3 times a year but I frankly have gotten lazy with my brushing and skip days. I have a sonic toothbrush but need to use it twice a day. I am loving the coffee and pipe, or tea or water. I am pre diabetic and am avoiding sugar like it’s a snake. I use honey in my coffee or tea and for a sweet treat get an Adkins bar. But I gotta brush for both my palate cleansing and health.

I too have noticed that I produce a lot more saliva than normal while smoking. I'm a beginner, so that's probably part of the reason. I find I have to put the pipe down, spit or swallow, before continuing. It's annoying but can't stop it.

Indeed. I spit more with a cigar than a pipe though. It is entirely NORMAL and probably healthy. In fact there have been scientific studies on the phenomenon. I think it would be worse if more saliva is not produced. It is there to aid a lot of things including protecting the gums and inner lining of the mouth and esophagus. peace

Having a son with braces (and many friends in school) I can say they all had drooling problems until they got used to having the braces in their mouth. I'm thinking this is a similar bodily response.
I agree with this line of thinking. The more I clench a pipe or cigar, the more saliva I produce. I find if I hold it more between puffs it helps. It will also get my sinuses flowing if I clench to long as well…

I think it’s simple biology. You inhale smoke from burning tobacco into your mouth. The smoke is an irritant and effects the mucosal lining. This in turn makes your salivary glands excrete more saliva.
