rajangan - I have been buying my cigar whole leaf from Leaf Only, great company, pricing and great bunch of guys running the place in CT. I have visited their operation while picking up 10lbs here and there, lol
I can not wait for the weather to get nice , nothing says great BBQ like taking out a stack of quality cigar whole leaf and rolling up some fresh made to order blends for the guys :puffy:
It took me a good year of rolling a dozen or so cigars per day to get back into it, it takes practice for anyone looking to get into the hobby, but once you get it you can roll'em out in under a few minutes

Dragon,
That's a lot of rolling. You have rolled thousands of cigars, then. I've for the most part given up on having the time to roll large numbers ahead of time and instead just roll them as I smoke them.
I wasn't going to be partisan and mention where I get my leaf from, but since you mentioned the other guys, I think it's only fair to say my leaf is from Whole Leaf Tobacco. I've been ordering from them for a few years. I'm sure it's the same where you go, but when my friends smoke cigars I rolled, they're always surprised that they're every bit as good as what they'd buy in the store.

I have had to get extra humidors this past year to handle the increase with all the rolling, hehe - My friends where also amazed at just how good the quality of leaf was. I have even taught some of them how to roll, a fun afternoon of BBQ, drinking and smoking :puffy:
Instead of using bands to sign my rolls, I use 24k gold leaf rolling papers and punch out a small dot, which I then use a little cigar glue to place the dot within the band area
I still want to get a tuck cutter, but they are still SO expensive I just opt for some cheap cutters and chuck them when they dull out, lol

Ha ha, I rolled a Burley wrapped Virginia, Turkish Cigar this weekend from some leaf stashed back that my wife found that had grown. I just wanted to try my hand at rolling. It was interesting, like a huge cigarette, but it frazzled out like a spinning dervish by midway. I now have to try buying some leaf to try this, while I await my cigar leaf plants to grow and get processed. But, I may have to try the glue... at least until I get the rolling process down. I usually have beginners luck with things, but...
I am definitely not giving up though. The idea of a humidor full of my own cigars really appeals to me.

My mother and law told my wife that tobacco plants get bigger than cornstalks, so my wife says I only need to grow 2 plants. I told her humbug, I am growing rows of a few types of my own tobacco for cigars. I may buy some at whole leaf when I have the cash to drop, but I like the idea of my crop being organic. I hear nicotine is actually used as a pesticide, but have to look that up. Rolling a cigar may take me a while. Best place for seeds? It probably has been mentioned. Also leaf recommendations? I am fond of Nicaraguan cigars the most. My favorites are Davidoff's cheap Robusto deluxe with the barrel on the label, H Upmann, and Romeo 1875.

You can tell your wife this. Cigar tobacco varieties average 2 to 4 oz of cured tobacco, depending on the variety and conditions. The average cigar is half an ounce, so 2 plants ain't worth the trouble.
