I assume lots of members own at least one. There are plenty of them available on eBay. I’m considering picking one up for my first restoration project. Any insight or suggestions?

Look for Linkman's pieces as well. Early Dr. Grabows and they are great little pipes.

My grandfather’s lightly smoked Dr. Grabow Westbrook. Late 50s - early 60s. Apparently top quality only available through an RJ Reynolds coupon offer.

There’s very good info on rebornpipes about the line.

Have several that I bought for $1.25 at a junk shop...they are from the 50's and are great smokers...small bowls, though.

Just for comparison to the more recent crop, I think Royaltons are excellent, an upgraded finish and a good acrylic stem. The no bead-line bulldog is especially well shaped. They obviously have some artisan crafts people on the line. You can smoke them with or without the 6 mm filter, but I like a 6 mm adaptor to smoke them without the filter.

If you're restoring something recent, that would be a good one.

Thanks guys. I’ll keep my eyes open for a nicely priced estate and post some pics when I’m done

Be careful. I picked one up about a week ago. It was an impulsive buy as the auction was closing soon and it was only $8 (+ $7 in shipping). Anyway, the stem is cracked and super loose. It's barely smokeable. I'm gonna send it in to Dr Gs to get it fixed, but given the cost there, I'll wind up spending $26 for a used Dr Grabow. Kinda sucks.

Fantastic smokers for the purchasing price ! I warmly recommend. Some more knowledgeable folks around here also think highly of the older Dr Grabows if you can get them.
